Deflazacort is also an immunosuppressant that can lower the white blood cells. Thus Deflazacort is used to suppress the immune system in organ transplant operations, which can help prevent the rejection of transplanted organs. Deflazacort is also indicated for the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), autoimmune hepatitis, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, immune thrombocytopenic purpura and polyarteritis nodosa.
Deflazacort is used to treat certain types of cancers such as acute and lymphatic leukemia, multiple myeloma (cancer of the bone marrow) and lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes).
